HOW TO ADD THE ABOVE GOOGLE SEARCH BAR TO YOUR OWN BROWSER

INTERNET EXPLORER USERS:

FIREFOX USERS - USE THE FOLLOWING HELP FILE

Here's a very simple way to use this site's Google Search straight from your Firefox search bar without ever having to visit this page. Here's how you do it.

  1. Go to this site: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3682

  2. Select "Install Now"

  3. A "Software Installation" window will pop-up. It is the standard Mozilla Firefox add-on dialogue that you have most likely seen before. It will say "You have asked to install the following item..." - - You should select "Install Now" (This add-on is completely safe. It has been verified by Firefox and I've personally used it for a long time.)

  4. The dialogue box will now say "Restart Firefox". Go ahead and click that. It will close then bring all your windows and tabs back to the states they are in right now.

  5. Now navigate to the top of this page (http://search-center.blogspot.com) and locate the Google Search bar. Right-click inside it. You will see an option called "Add To Search Bar..." - - Select that option.

  6. A box will pop up that says "Google Search Center" and has an orange "B" for a favicon. Leave everything as it is and select OK.

  7. Now navigate to your Firefox search bar (usually in the top-right corner) and click the small down-arrow. This should reveal a list of available search engines. Select "Google Search Center" with the orange "B". Periodically see if it is still the default search. If not, just click the down arrow again and select "Google Search Center".

Now, every time you use your built-in Firefox search, you will be doing a regular Google search, but we will get a small portion of what Google generates in income from your searches! Of course one computer is not going to allow anyone to quit their day jobs, but if a bunch of people were willing to get behind us on this, we might find it easier to make it through these next couple of years while I heal up. Thank you!

If you get stuck at any point of this, you can view this tutorial http://maltekraus.de/Firefox/search-tools/addtosearchbar-screencast.html

or e-mail me and I will gladly help you. If you are curious about specific reasons why you might really love Firefox, please call me and I'll try to explain!

Sincerely,
Tim

Internet Explorer Help For Using This Site's Google Search In Your Browser

This technique will only work for Internet Explorer version 7 as far as I know. If you are using an earlier version of IE, please know that IE7 is much safer and has better features than previous versions. Also note that Firefox is even safer than IE7 and has so many more features I wouldn't even be able to explain! Consider using Firefox if possible. If you are curious about specific reasons, please give me a call and I'll explain what I can.

Now for the 7 simple steps!

  1. In Internet Explorer, navigate to this page: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/searchguide/en-en/default.mspx

  2. Press Control+T to open a new tab, then paste this link in the address bar: http://tinyurl.com/3dob43
Now press Enter to go to that page.

  3. Using control+c, copy the super-long URL that appears. It should start like this: http://www.google.com/custom?q=TEST etc...

  4. In the yellow section of the original Internet Explorer page (from step 1) line 3 states "Paste the URL of the Search results page." You will paste all of the long URL you just copied into the empty text area.

  5. Line 4 will state "Specify a name for the search provider." Type "Tim's Google Search".

  6. A pop up will show "Do you want to add the following search provider to Internet Explorer?" FIRST, check "Make this my default search provider."

  7. Next, click "Add Provider."

Now when you look in the top-left corner you will see "Tim's Google Search" as your default search engine. Be sure to repeat these steps if you notice that a different name appears in the future. Now every time you use that search bar, you will be using a normal Google search but we will get paid a small portion of what Google makes from this search bar. Every little bit helps, especially right now.

Thank you - we sincerely appreciate it!

Tim
